People say that artists have a gift.  I think it’s much more than an inherent talent.  It has a lot to do with the people and events in your life.

As a child I loved to draw pictures.  Whenever I was asked, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” the answer was always “an artist”.  With the encouragement of my family, I earned my BFA in 1991 from the University of WisconsinMilwaukee.  While there, I was awarded the Logan scholarship for study abroad.  I used the scholarship to join the painting program at Nottingham Polytechnic in England.  During my stay in England, I was able to travel throughout Europe, visiting museums, and seeing the sights.   My education gifted me a lifetime’s worth of inspiration.

I moved to Portland on a whim in 1993.  My first art related job in Portland was for a small ceramic company in Tualatin.  I hand painted floral designs on hundreds of pots each day.  The work, although tedious, gave me the gifts of confidence with paintbrushes.  Today, I hand paint borders on walls and furniture with great ease.

In 1997, I took a workshop on faux finishing from Diane Rosander, a talented decorative painter.  She gave me the gift of her knowledge and support.  It was through Diane that I got my first job doing the painting work that I do today.  My work has been as diverse as my clients.  I create murals, both large and small, for businesses and homeowners throughout the Portland area.  My work is by no means limited to murals.  If it involves paint, I’ve probably done it.   My work includes hand painted borders, furniture, tiles and custom works of art on canvas.  I have also done illustration work for Oregon Home magazine.

Recently I have begun to create fine art that expresses my interests, and draws from my own memories, dreams and emotions. I now show my work at coffee shops, wine tasting rooms and galleries that include Onda–Alberta, IFCC, and Talisman Galleries.  In January of 2007 I was featured in Oregon Home’s “Portfolio” article.

I am thankful for the gifts I have been given.  Without the professional support of other artists and clients, and the emotional support of my friends and family, I would not be doing what I do today.  I hope to continue sharing my love of art for many years to come.
